Try page numbers in blue and make them 1 square away from the tiles-NOT directly on top of the article names. Use the grid.
You could also soften the edges of your photo on the contents too so the top, bottom and edges are blurred/faded to white. This can be done in same way as you did make up, blur the whole image and then rub out the blur on all areas except the edges.
Contents title should read "Contents" not "Content"
